Emma Lanier, dancer, choreographer, and granddaughter of Ruth Asawa, performs an original dance solo alongside the artist’s sculptures in Life’s Work. Though Asawa identified as a visual artist, she studied dance with Merce Cunningham in the summer of 1948 during her formative years at Black Mountain College. Through her performance, Lanier reflects on her grandmother’s interests in space and form, filtered through her personal experience.
